Meraki Foundation began in 2019 when Founding members visited Kasturba Gandhi Trust in India where they gained first hand understanding of life of girls and women living in shelter due to domestic violence, abandonment or disability.
Mahatma Gandhi founded Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust in April 1945 with the object “to serve the women and children of smallest villages-not more than of 2000 population, through the main activities of education, health, maternity and medical aid, cottage industries and moral and social upliftment”.
It was also understood that while the need to help such women across the world is huge there are not enough resources to help them gain proper education and self reliance. Meraki Foundation is currently working on skill development training program that is offered to neighborhood underprivileged women free of cost. After the three (3) month training program, these women are trained in paper bag making, jute bag making, tailoring, and paper cup making and can gain employment and self-reliance. The material and machine cost is borne by the trust with donations.
